East Fife and Alloa Athletic first met in a Penman Cup first round tie at Recreation Park in February 1908 and went on to meet on several occasions in Central League, Penman Cup and Qualifying Cup matches before both clubs were admitted to the Scottish League in 1921. Significant encounters during those early days included a Qualifying Cup Quarter Final tie in season 1920/21 which went to three matches before being decided at the neutral venue of Central Park, Cowdenbeath, before a crowd of 10,000. East Fife went on to win the trophy that season by beating Bo'ness 3-1 in the final in front of over 20,000 at the same venue. The most significant East Fife v Alloa match from the 'Wasps' point of view has to be their 2-1 victory at Bayview on 5 April 1913 which saw Alloa win the Central League Championship. In more recent times, East Fife secured a place in the Second Division of the re-structured Scottish League after a tense 1-1 draw at Recreation Park on 14 May 1994. Defeat in this match would have seen East Fife consigned to Division Three the following season with the 'Wasps' taking the Fifers' place in the Second Division.

Below: Promotion! (or was it just avoiding relegation?). East Fife supporters celebrate at Recreation Park after a 1-1 draw in the final match of the 1993/94 season.
