There have only been three meetings between Ross County and East Fife in the three major competitions and all three matches have been in the Scottish Cup. The only other matches played between the sides are a Challenge Cup first round tie in season 1994/95 and two friendlies - one in 1959 and the other in 1976 - which both resulted in draws. The Scottish Cup tie which was eventually played at Victoria Park on Sunday 7 January 1990 was originally scheduled for Saturday 30 December 1989 but was postponed due to the condition of the Dingwall ground. After a further postponement on Saturday 6 January, the match went ahead the following day despite vociferous objections by many people from the Dingwall area on religious grounds. On the morning of the game the local church appealed for supporters to boycott the match and one Ross County player even refused to play! A large crowd did turn out despite the appeal, but the Highland League side were no match for East Fife, who won 4-1 with goals from Willie Brown, Hunter, Iain Brown and Crolla.
