East Fife's first meeting with Morton was a Division Two encounter at Bayview on 8 October 1927, which the Fifers won 5-0. Unfortunately, this emphatic victory was not a taste of things to come and in actual fact the result still stands as East Fife's biggest ever win over Morton. The Greenock side have recorded some pretty convincing wins over the Fifers through the years including an 8-1 drubbing at Cappielow in January 1935, a 6-1 defeat at the same venue in October 1963 (in front of a 12,000 crowd!) and a 6-0 win at Bayview on 2 October 1971.
The two clubs have never met outside the three main competitions and the most significant encounter between the sides was the League Cup Quarter Final in season 1954/55 which East Fife won 4-2 on aggregate before going down 2-1 to Motherwell at Hampden in the Semi Final.
